Often overlooked in our efforts to reduce stress and experience peace in our lives is the presence - or absence - of noise.
Noise by definition is any unwanted sound, but even background sounds we no longer consciously process, such as traffic noise in cities we "tune out", still has an impact on us.
It is exceedingly useful, on the quest to "get your mind right" to find - or create - a quiet setting.
The mind tends to be a 'chatterbox' - constantly in motion, and the effort to get our thoughts under control sometimes seems almost impossible - especially in an environment that provides continual input in the form of noise - background or otherwise.
We can go into our closet, as the Master taught, and find it easier to meditate or pray. But there is also a frankly miraculous effect on our physical bodies (enhancing healing, regulating blood pressure, etc.) when we spend time in quiet. The evidence is that quiet enables clear thinking (of the conscious and unconscious mind), and clear thinking yields better results.
Yes - You DO have time to "Be Still and Know.."
If you have to physically unplug the TV, telephone, computer, etc. - if you have to tell the other people in your dwelling, "Leave me alone for 10 minutes, because I need to be undisturbed for a few minutes - Please do not bother me for 15 minutes - I can and will help you with anything you need - but in 15 to 20 minutes time - Right now I need quiet time for me." - that's OK. Your friends, family and/or pets will understand.
Speaking on behalf of Divinity: You have permission to get quiet.
Learn to Meditate.
- There are several methods we can use to quiet our minds..
Once quieted, we can then access information that was previously 'drowned out' by mind chatter. This very subtle information is usually overcome (in our awareness) by all manner of distractions. PLUS (!) This gentle, subtle info can really be fun (as well as informative). So, learn and then practice.
